Rural Carpool is designed to help citizens in small rural areas self-organize carpooling and cost-sharing for occasional trips to larger towns or special events, and for commuters.

Rural Carpool is not like a taxi, Über or Lyft, nor is it like any bus or transit service -- it works where those systems are most challenged by low population density. Rural Carpool simply helps our members self-organize occasional longer trips to larger towns, decreasing the costs for every traveler.

Cumberland Rural Carpool is our second Region (our first Region is the North Shore of Nova Scotia) where we identified most of the region's villages, towns, cities, and travel routes. Then we constructed 115 pretend identities and created thousands of pretend past and future Trips within the region, to help get a sense of how Rural Carpool can work. People looked at the Demo, found it fun and exciting, signed up, and gave us great feedback.

Soon we'll be launching Cumberland Rural Carpool (target date: November 15)! Send an email to marney@cumberlandruralcarpool.com if you're interested in more information, or pre-register so you'll be ready to roll! There are never any costs or obligations for membership.

Cumberland Rural Carpool's Current Status:

8/17/2023
Just had a Zoom meeting on the Current Status, and getting the Cumberland Region off the ground! We are aiming for October 1 for the "soft launch," which gives us about six weeks to lay the groundwork, get the word out, gather enthusiastic members, and start to locate regional partners!

Rural Carpool is such a great idea -- we're looking forward to showing what Cumberland can do!
